Ramblers' Education
The Amherst Jr. Ramblers pride themselves on education. The Ramblers, being centrally located in the MJAHL, are fortunate to have a travel schedule that still allows players to attend school regularly. With a 50 game regular season schedule that includes games in three different provinces, the Maritime Junior A Hockey League has taken steps to minimize the number of school days missed and maximize the opportunity for the student athlete. Last season Ramblers players missed just THREE full days of school due to hockey. This number is one of the lowest in the MJAHL. The MJAHL is primarily a weekend league with 90 percent of games being scheduled between Thursday and Sunday, thus allowing players to attend school regularly.
The Ramblers also pride themselves on their education package, as funding is provided for all players who attend a secondary educational institution. Players are eligible for this funding only if they receive a 65 percent or higher in each course.
A school consultant is also provided for each player to ensure they have the proper courses needed for their specific programs of study. Another service our school consultant provides is the matching of courses, so they are transferrable if a player leaves one school for another. Players are able to move back home after the season and continue their studies.
The Amherst Jr. Ramblers continue to strive for excellence in their education program and would like to thank Amherst Regional High School, Nova Scotia Community College - Cumberland Campus and Mount Allison University for their continuing support.
